This charming house in the Hancock Point summer community is right on Frenchman Bay and features a shared private beach. The view looking across to the mountains of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island is stunning. The location is tranquil, yet only a 20-minute drive to Ellsworth for groceries and shopping. You can walk to the famous Crocker House for dinner or drive 10 minutes to Ironbound Restaurant or Chester Pike’s for excellent food. The public dock, tennis courts and an historic and charming summer library are all within walking distance. The yard and shore access are partially shared with the larger Thompson House next door.
We are located in Hancock, an ideal location from which to access both parts of Acadia National Park. We are about 45 minutes from the entrance in Bar Harbor and about 25 minutes from the lesser well know part of the park on Schoodic Point in Winter Harbor.
Nearby activities include kayaking (Hancock Point Kayak Tours), tennis on nearby courts, and bicycle rentals (Cadillac Mountain Sports in Ellsworth). There are lovely swimming beaches and mountain hike on and around Donnell Pond (a big lake) in the Public Reserve Lands, not too far from here.
There is 1 bedroom with a queen-size bed, and a pull-out double futon in the living room. It’s a lot packed into a small space. It was converted in 1972 from an old carriage-house-then-garage, as a retirement home for our parents, not particularly renovated since then, so comfortable, but not luxurious.
Pets are considered. Children are welcome. This house is non-smoking only. Contact us for reservation details.
Check-in is 4:00 p.m. and check out is 10:00 a.m.
